The SH-50 has plenty to boast about, but it has one special feature that’s going to change point-and-shoot cameras forever: its groundbreaking, super-sharp image stabilisation (IS) technology. The SH-50 is the first-ever compact digital camera to counteract blur with the sophisticated 5-axis system normally used in DSLRs. Hybrid 5-axis Movie IS is so effective that you can actually make a movie as you run, entirely blur-free. For still shots, 3-axis Photo IS is just as powerful and, in this type of camera, just as rare. The world-beating IS isn’t just about razor-sharp shots. In combination with iHS technologies, it makes the SH-50 a fantastic camera for shooting in poor light. iHS includes the TruePic VI processor and backlit CMOS sensor that deliver the high sensitivity and high speed you need to enhance detail and reduce noise in low-light conditions. On top the SH-50 has a great feature for close-up imaging. Telephoto Macro mode lets you zoom in on tiny details from up to 40cm away to create fascinating stills and Full HD movies. If you record your movies in 120fps high-speed movie mode, you can play them back in HD in super slow-motion and catch movements you’d miss with the naked eye. In 1080 Full HD resolution, the SH-50 gives you a choice of the 60i or 30p format. Whichever you choose, the result will be sharp as a tack.

TRUEPIC PROCESSOR
This powerful image processor forms a part of the in-built iHS technologies dedicated to high overall image quality. Not only does it offer image processing capabilities with high resolution while maintaining high-level colour reproduction. It also provides improved colour controllability in specific colours such as emerald green and yellow. The image processing speed are also increased, along with startup and shooting speeds.

PHOTO WITH MOVIE CLIP
This multi-tasking function allows you shoot video and stills of the same subject or scene, by automatically recording movies either straight before or straight after you take a still shot.
EYE-FI COMPATIBILITY
An Eye-Fi card enables you to automatically upload images using WiFi. Being compatible with your camera, you can activate and deactivate this card as you wish directly in your setting menu. Whenever the need or moment arises, you can then share photos and movies on your camera directly with other devices. HAND-HELD STARLIGHT MODE WITH FLASH
Hand-held Starlight Mode counteracts picture noise and camera shake to capture razor-sharp photos by taking multiple images at different exposure settings. It then selects and merges the most suitable gradation for each part of the photo, resulting in a perfectly exposed photo that you couldnt normally shoot in poor light without using a tripod. The flash is also enabled for Hand-held Starlight mode, meaning that images can be merged from various background shots and the foreground shot taken with the flash allowing you to capture both the foreground and background beautifully, and ensure absolutely optimum foreground lighting in non-scenery photos.

Olympus 3 Displays are the first choice for easy framing, reviewing and sharing of photos and movies. The imaging power of these monitors is characterised by vivid colour reproduction and high levels of contrast with improved resolution up to 1.030k dots and great new technologies like OLED for even further improved viewing and framing possibilities.
FACE DETECTION TECHNOLOGY
A technology that searches for faces in a composition and recognizes them as the main subject. It then automatically puts them in focus and optimally adjusts exposure to create an image that’s sharp in the right places and ideally exposed. Available for photos and videos, Advanced Face Detection Technology can detect up to 8 faces.
HYBRID 5-AXIS MOVIE IS
The world’s first* Hybrid 5-Axis Movie image stabilisation in a compact camera is designed to counteract blurring in movies even in low light, with long shots and when you’re on the move. Exactly the same principle and benefit applies to the 3-Axis image stabilisation system utilised when taking stills. And even when taking stills, 3 axes are stabilised mechanically with the 3-Axis stabilisation system for sharper shots resulting from less camera shake and blurring caused by tricky lighting conditions.
AF TRACKING
This system tracks a moving subject automatically and keeps it continuously in focus for optimally exposed pictures. It even memorizes the subject when it goes out of frame and resumes tracking when it reappears.
SHADOW ADJUSTMENT
Take beautiful photos of people in high-contrast situations that would normally be difficult to capture. Harnessing the power of the TruePic processor, Advanced Shadow Adjustment Technology automatically adjusts the brightness and gradation, reducing picture noise in dark areas to create a natural-looking photo.
BEAUTY MAKE-UP MODE
Apply different facial effects to the people’s faces in your photos, almost instantly, before even taking their picture. Choose from 18 different effects including eyeliner, lipstick, eye brightening, cheek lift and soft focus. Up to three different faces, for each photo, can have facial effects.
DUAL IMAGE STABILISATION
Providing two-fold protection, this special function helps to avoid image blur caused by camera shake. It combines high ISO values with a sensor- or lens based mechanical image stabiliser, where a built-in sensor detects camera movement and adjusts the image sensor or lens accordingly.
FAST AF
FAST AF (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology Autofocus) is a super-fast autofocus system and a breakthrough in autofocus technology. FAST AF is fed by a new sensor that supplies the necessary video signals at double the read-out speed (120fps) of previous sensors. The electrifying performance of FAST AF is enhanced by Full Time AF that ensures the camera constantly adjusts the focus, even before a photo or movie is taken. Not only does FAST AF guarantee lightning quick focussing, it also speeds up the AF system boot response following shutter release.
HDR BACKLIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Instead of recording just one shot, your camera takes multiple images very quickly at different exposure settings. Then it automatically merges them. The result is a collage of photos blended seamlessly together into one perfectly exposed combined final shot. Capture your scene just as you see it, no matter if you’re shooting against the light.
MULTI-MOTION MOVIE IS
Multi-motion movie image stabilisation is a system that effectively counteracts blurring – even while you are walking and filming at the same time, and even with slow-moving subjects, long shots and pans. It’s ideal for making dynamic, spontaneous movies when you’re on the move and invariably don’t have a tripod.
TOUCH OPERATION
Your Olympus camera is even easier and more intuitive to use. With the Touch Operation, simply touch the camera’s LCD screen with the tip of your finger to carry out a whole host of different actions such as switching your point of focus.
ULTRA-WIDE OPTICAL ZOOM LENSES

Forming a part of his image technologies, BSI CMOS is a specific type of sensor that is designed to produce a higher dynamic range with particularly high sensitivity and better noise performance, especially in low light. The sensor is also back-illuminated increasing the amount of light it captures still further and thereby optimising its low-light performance.
