Olympus has a long history of being a very safety conscious company, especially with Li-ion batteries, which require great attention in development and manufacturing to comply with changing regulations. Olympus also provides a smooth transition to next generation products.
That is why we introduced together with the E-5 the newly developed Li-ion Battery the "BLM-5" and the Li-ion Battery Charger the "BCM-5". Both items already comply with the new Japanese Electrical Appliance and Material standard safety for lithium ion
rechargeable batteries.
The E-5 is delivered with the "BLM-5" and "BCM-5". Additionally both articles can be bought indiviually. As the configuration of the new "BLM-5" battery is the same as the current "BLM-1", the "BLM-5" can also be used with the current Olympus SLR cameras
The BLM-1 can be used with the E-5 but the new BLM-5 is recommended. The BLM-5 can be used with E-system cameras such as the E-3 and E-30 and with previous cameras which used the BLM-1. The BLM-5 battery is only compatible with the BCM-5 charger. The BLM-1 is only compatible with either the BCM-1 or the BCM-2. Please see also the compatibility chart.
